Relationship building is the foundation of your business. It establishes you as a professional, trustworthy, and consistent source.

Building relationships online is more difficult when compared to offline relationship building. The techniques used are almost the same. But, turning a potential customer into a lifetime customer offline is easier due to the nature of the process. In online marketing, you can’t meet your clients in person like in offline marketing. But, thanks to the internet, it makes relationship marketing a lot easier.

I know, many online marketers will tell you to use the email marketing method. But to do that, you need to have a website or a landing page, do the A/B testing, learn how to do email marketing, spend some money every month on the system, and so on. It costs you money and requires more time and effort for it to work.

If you have just started your network marketing business, all these can be rather overwhelming and distract you from focusing on your real income-producing activity.

How to retain your online customers?

#1. Create a Facebook Group

This is a free and easy method, and you can have unlimited members in the group.

You can invite all your customers and potential customers into your Facebook group, and share all the updates about your products or services in this group. Besides, you can also share all the promotions, free gifts and even teach them how to use your products via a post or a video demonstration here.

You can also use the ATM method in your Facebook group. ATM is Add, Tag, Message method. Every customer is different in their needs. After you ADD them to your Facebook group, you can TAG them to the relevant post, and MESSAGE them to follow up.

Facebook group is a great place to build relationships and nurture your customers or potential customers.

If your upline leader is already having a Facebook group for this purpose, you may leverage their group instead of creating your own.

#2. Create a Whatsapp or Telegram Group

Similar to Method #1 above, You can invite all your customers and the potential customers into your Whatsapp or Telegram group, and share all the updates about your products or services in this group.

The only disadvantage is that Whatsapp or Telegram group is less organizing compare to the Facebook group, and you can’t really use the ATM method effectively. New members cannot see the earlier messages that were sent out before they join the group.

However, not all customers or potential customers are active on Facebook. Some may prefer Whatsapp or Telegram instead. So, this is a good free method to add members that are not active on Facebook. 

#3. Create a Whatsapp Broadcast List

This works similar to email broadcast but much quicker and easier to set up, and it’s free!

You can create the broadcast list on your Whatsapp, and add your contacts here. You just need to send out the message once in this broadcast list, and all the contacts under this list will receive your message as if you are sending this to them personally, without you manually sending out the message to hundreds of your customers one by one.

However, this method is not that suitable to nurture your customers or potential customers with product info, usage, testimonials, etc. as you will come across as spammy. This method is more suitable to update them about the promotions.

Tip #1: Plan your day the night before

At the end of each day, write down all the things you need to do the following day to achieve your goals. Pull together all the information you’ll need, phone numbers and relevant paperwork. Personally, I use Trello for all the to-do-list planning before I sleep.  

Tip #2: Prioritize the list

Put your to-do-list into these four categories:

• Important and urgent
• Important but not urgent 
• Urgent but not important
• Not urgent and not important

Tip #3: Stick to your list

Focus on your to-do-list and check off each item once you are done. This will motivate you to complete your lists as much as possible. 

Sometimes, things pop up in your days that make you unable to complete some of the tasks. That’s ok, don’t beat yourself for that. Move the uncompleted tasks to the next day or week based on its urgency and priority.

Tips #4: Focus only on 2-3 major tasks

Yes, I know it’s so tempting to finish more than three major tasks. But you probably already have so many things to do on your plate, especially if you are a busy mom. 

There are so many unplanned incidents that could happen, such as a call from the school, your kids need some help for their homework, etc. If you can’t complete two to three major tasks, then focus on one instead.

Tips #5: Don’t let yourself get distracted

The temptation is to handle the phone calls, emails and social media notifications as they come in. 

When you are working, put your mobile phones and notification into silent or airplane mode. Schedule in the time to check your messages and social media notifications instead and stick with it. 

Tip #6: Don’t procrastinate

Procrastination really is the “Thief of Time”. It’s so easy to put things off till another time or till “I’ve had time to think about it.” 

Refer back to Tip #2 above, look at the urgency and the importance level, if it needs to get done as soon, please do so. The more you procrastinate, the more tasks will be accumulated until it overwhelms and paralyzes you.

Step 1: Analyze what you wish to accomplish

Think about what is most important to you. Look at where you are today and determine where you want to go.

Step 2: Identify your key objectives

Rank-order them, and limit yourself to no more than three. (Five if you must.)

This is where you say, “Here’s what I plan to do and here’s how I plan to do it.” 

This must be written using SMART goals, which are “specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timely.” 

For example, your resolution could be “I will lose weight this year.” But a SMART goal sounds like this: I will walk for 30 minutes three times a week starting from 1st February.

Step 4: Prioritize your plan

This is where you say, “Here’s the order that I plan to do them in.”

This is where you say, “Here’s how I will put my plan into practice.” Then do it! 

This should include a regular review and celebration process. Ideally, you should review your plan every week or every two weeks.

Don’t get me wrong, there are so many companies with great products and services. I have no doubt about that, and I respect these companies that put in their best effort to come out with great products or services that benefitted many people.

However, if your goal is to build a long-term passive and residual income, then you might want to look into monthly consumable products or monthly subscription-based services. This is how you can ensure a sustainable monthly passive income from your team – both the customers and business builders.

If you are selling a one-time product, such as kitchen cookware, your customers will not buy new kitchen cookware every month. Ask yourself, will you? 

So, after selling the kitchen cookware to your customers, they won’t buy it again next month and the following months. 

But to maintain your monthly sales volume, you will have to work even harder to keep on looking for new customers that would love your kitchen cookware. Can you imagine how hard and how much time you have to spend working this business? Is this what you want?

But if you are selling monthly consumable products or monthly subscription-based services, you will spend less time and effort looking for new customers since these customers will always come back to you month after month once they finish consuming the products.

One great example of monthly consumable products is skincare and supplements in the health and wellness industry.

4. Or, if you like to do charity, you can also choose a company that is supporting charity too. For example, the company that I work with has an incredible passion for children. Therefore, they also run a charity organization focused on kids, such as building schools in poor villages around the world. All the distributors can join in to support at any time.

This is why you should choose a company with great quality and monthly consumable products or monthly subscription-based services if your goal is to build a residual and passive income.

Almost all companies require monthly autoship from their distributors. That’s how the company can survive and pay you well. A company without good products sales will be running out of business. Here are a few things you should find out about your company autoship:

• How much is the investment of your monthly autoship?
• The quantity of your autoship product – does it require you to invest in the big quantity more than you need on a monthly basis, that will end up having you stock up all the extra products that can’t be finished?
• When you are ordering more products in a certain month, does the extra products that you order count towards your next following months’ autoship – that means you don’t have to order products anymore for the next following months?
• As you scale up the rank, will your monthly autoship amount remain the same or increase?

I love my company as I only need to consume one box of supplements for my autoship, which will finish within a month. Sometimes, when my company is having a great promotion, I will order a few months worth of products for a better discount, and I do not need to order products anymore for the next few months. As I scale up the rank, my monthly autoship amount still remains the same.

#2: How to prevent your point from being flush?

Each distributor will be given the points from their team sales volume. These points are your income as your company will pay you based on the points you are having.

You need to find out how to prevent your points from being flush. Some companies are based on your monthly sales volume performance to keep your points. Some companies don’t have the stress of meeting the monthly sales target, but it only requires you to use the products on a monthly basis – the autoship, to keep your points.

Personally, I prefer the company that only requires me to use one box of supplements on a monthly basis to keep my points, without the stress of hitting the monthly sales volume. This is especially important for busy moms that are dealing with many other responsibilities.

#3: Are you being paid 100%?

Some companies will cut out a certain percentage of your commission to pay to your upline leaders. If this is the case, you are not paid 100%. With this kind of unfair compensation plan, you will never earn more than your upline leaders. 

So, choose a company that pays you 100% instead. With this kind of fair compensation plan, you will earn more than your upline leaders if you are more skillful and more hardworking than them.

They were using the offline method to build their business, such as cold callings, being active in business networking events and so on. Mistake #3: Over-posting

Opposite to the Mistake #2 above, some people are over posting on Facebook. I have seen people that are posting more than 5 times everyday.

But over-posting will make you look spammy, especially when you are sharing other people’s content and not your own content, or when you are posting about your company and products.

Yes, Facebook will start to see you as SPAM and not letting people see your post. In other words, it hurts your algorithm.

Ideally, you should only post once or twice a day. If a post is doing well, don’t post again that day to avoid the algorithm competition with your post.

Mistake #4: No personal content

Facebook is a place where people come to socialize. If you post only about your business, products or services, that would turn people off. People will either start to unfriend you or quietly unfollow you.

My most popular and highly engaged posts are those that I talk about my family and my life.

Mistake #5: Too many shared content that’s irrelevant to you and your friends

This is similar to Mistake #4. But instead of posting about your business, you are sharing all about other people’s content. 

It is alright to share some valuable content from others once in a while if that’s a good content that provides value. But don’t overdo it.

Sharing too much of other people’s content will have two problems. First, it makes you look spammy. Second, Facebook algorithm doesn’t favor post sharing. This is why this type of posts are usually low in visibility and engagement.

If you really want to share about other people’s content, you should add some of your personal thoughts regarding that particular post. Make it relevant to you!

Mistake #6: Posting back to back

Similar to Mistake #3, usually over-posting will have this problem because you are not allowing enough time for Facebook or your friends to see your posts.

Before they can see your first post, you are now hitting them with your second, third, fourth and fifth posts. This will hurt your algorithm.

Ideally, you should space out the posts at least 5 hours apart. If you have to make two posts, make it one in the morning, and another one in the afternoon or evening.
